I lived in a neighborhood growing up with 2 families that moved in whoses fathers were Wayne. and who attended the same local Methodist church. One family moved to Mack Ct. at the foot of suicide hill; their daughter would say "You are going to get hit with a big Mack truck; she married a Clubb and works in OBGYN departments." The other family took me to the beach early high school; their father was a trucker for a national company and played cut the curve over the mountain. At the beach, next door were 2 boys from Roanoke where my aunt lived before moving to Tallahassee in Florida. (She originally lived in a duplex in the town where I currently live and worked for the only OBGYN. There is now a pharmacist at the store across the street from the duplex married to a police officer.) One of the boys at the beach had the same name as my brother and the other was named Toy. The trucking company went bankrupt not too long after this.
My aunt's son-in-law works at a church behind the original McDonald's and Long John Silvers in our town. Two of the "Wayne" children were in the car with me when I sort of pulled out to see around a bus driving in later years to the high school near the county seat and could not get back in; I ended up passing the bus over a hill. I think of the incident as the original Big Mac attack. There seem to have been others. There were 2 "Hazel" families in a row of houses across the street from me. Both had sons killed in odd accidents. One of the families, dad named Guy,moved near the county seat after their son was hit and killed by a car; the other had a son Bucky who drowned in a state park and his family moved to Bluefield. My brother later drowned at Emmett Bridge, my grandfather's name on my aunt's side of the family . There was an Osborne couple on the same street ( next door to one of the Hazel's) who sat for me when I was small and for the Lewis family whom I think were associated with the power board; the Osbornes were from Mountain City and their nephew was a police officer.
There were a couple of very prominent people in our area associated with "Buck". One of them lived behind the Methodist Church. I think prominent people have the ability to "send in the plays" ahead of time in real estate, motel bookings, work scheduling, etc. It is rather like a Haze Maze. The ability is there to "tip the hand" and influence outcomes by sending "smoke signals" to players further down the line. There are other very interesting streets in the area. One is Sir Echo with Little Sir Echo below it. Sir Echo was home to the Eagles Club when I was growing up; their is a "Guy" family currently on that road, and the Eagles Club now has very nice condos in its place.
